This Sunday was the last full day my brother was visiting us, and we decided to try and find a place where the weather was better then in Milan. My boyfriend, his parents, my brother and myself left in the direction of Lago Maggiore. A couple of kilometers from Milan the grey clouds and rain started to change into a blue and sunny sky. Lucky us!
What normally happens when my boyfriend is driving, is that we end up on top of a mountain. It was the same mountain we spend a day on during Easter. A big difference this time. Last time it was 2 degrees Celsius, and I was freezing my feet off. I was wearing some non appropriate mountain shoes (slippery loafers, but very cute ones). This time I was a little bit more prepared. Luckily it was also really warm up there, and I was melting away in my 4 layer outfit. Not complaining though.
The mountain I’m talking about is called Monte Mottarone, and when you arrive at the top, you have a breathtaking view of the seven lakes and other snow peaked mountains around. For someone that is in for a little bit of fun (a LOT of fun) there is a bobsled roller coaster that goes down the mountain. After trying it two times, I can definitely recommend it to everybody, whatever age you have. You can check out their website here.
I was so happy I took my polaroid camera with me, and got some really nice pictures. These pictures are made with the Diana F instant camera. I’ve always wanted a polaroid camera. It has something really special to it. Every time you take a picture, you get this little buzz of excitement when it comes rolling out.
Being on the mountain there, we were actually pretty close to the Lago d’Orta. I had never been there, so i was definitely excited to go and see a new place. As I always say, it doesn’t matter where you exactly go in Italy. It will always blow your mind with it’s beauty. As soon as we drove into the little town called Orta San Giulio, I knew I found another little town I would love. There were no cars allowed, so you had to walk into the old city center.
Lago D’Orta is one of the smallest and least-known of northern Italy’s sub-Alpine lakes. When you’re walking in the little streets of the old town, you feel it has such a rich history and everywhere you look you can find something that is worth the picture.
Whenever you will be around the more famous lake Maggiore, take a trip to this beautiful place too. It will not disappoint you! For family and friends at home, you can also find nice souvenirs. Funghi, home made soap and even some pasta…
